Die Frage nach Architektur und Ökologie zählt zu den zentralen Themen der Gegenwart. Wenn wir davon ausgehen, dass mit dem Anthropozän als neu ausgerufenem Zeitalter der Globus und seine Geologie unumkehrbar menschlich geprägt ist, so bildet die Architektur quasi den Archetypus einer menschlich gestalteten Umwelt. Als solcher bündelt sie zahlreiche Kernfragen eines ökologischen Lebens.
Entsprechend näherte sich das Seminar der Frage nach Architektur und Ökologie jenseits einer technischen Verengung des Themas. Es betrachtete Fragen der Gestaltgebung, organisatorische und materielle Prozesse sowie deren Verknüpfung mit spezifischen Lebensformen. Das Seminar hatte zum Ziel, gegenwärtige Diskussionen in ihren theoretischen Implikationen besser zu fassen und ihren historischen Wurzeln zuzuordnen. Diskutiert wurden auch Beispiele einer praktischen Umsetzung ökologischer Ansätze in Architektur und Ästhetik, sowie neue Potentiale und Perspektiven.
The question of architecture and ecology is one of the central issues of the present. If we assume that with the Anthropocene as a newly proclaimed age, the globe and its geology are irreversibly shaped by humans, then architecture forms the archetype, so to speak, of a humanly designed environment. As such, it bundles numerous core issues of an ecological life.
Accordingly, the seminar approached the question of architecture and ecology beyond a technical narrowing of the topic. It considered questions of design, organizational and material processes, and their linkage to specific forms of life. The seminar aimed to better grasp current discussions in their theoretical implications and to relate them to their historical roots. Examples of a practical implementation of ecological approaches in architecture and aesthetics, as well as new potentials and perspectives were also discussed.
